Xiaomi 15T Pro review

Xiaomi-15T-Pro-body-design

It’s time to get to one of those phones we’ve been waiting for all year. Xiaomi’s T-series has always been the go-to guy who gives you flagship features for less money. Now, Xiaomi’s new warrior, the Xiaomi 15T Pro, has entered the fray with big claims. It’s not just a simple update to the previous generation, it’s a game-changer, especially in the camera department, which has unveiled a periscope lens with 5x optical zoom that we only dreamed of in phones at this price point last year!
But the real question is; do these claims hold true in the real world? Has Xiaomi managed to maintain that golden balance between price and features, or has it tipped the scales in the direction of price this time? In our Xiaomi 15T Pro review, we’re going to take a full and comprehensive look at the Xiaomi 15T Pro! Finally, we’ll put this phone up against its predecessor, the 14T Pro, and its tough competitors to see how much it’s worth buying.

Xiaomi 15T Pro Design Review

The first thing you’ll feel when you hold the 15T Pro is a sense of solidity and confidence. Xiaomi has made a smart change in its materials this year. Gone are the glass back panels that were both beautiful and prone to fingerprints and, of course, breaking. Instead, it’s made use of a matte-coated fiberglass back panel that feels much better in your hand and is more impact-resistant. The phone is surrounded by a sturdy, matte aluminum frame that gives it a premium, durable feel.
Measuring 14.5 mm and weighing 210 grams, the phone is slightly taller and wider than its predecessor, the 14T Pro (which weighed 209 grams), but thinner. Despite having a larger screen, Xiaomi has done a good job of engineering and keeping the weight almost the same.

But the real story is in the durability and toughness of this phone. The screen is now protected by Gorilla Glass 7i, which is a head and shoulders above the Gorilla Glass 5 on the 14T Pro and has much better resistance to scratches and drops. The IP68 certification that we had before has also been upgraded here, and now the phone can survive up to 3 meters of water for 30 minutes, while this number was 1.5 to 2 meters for previous generations. This means that Xiaomi understands that users want a phone that can be with them in the harsh conditions of everyday life, not just a stylish and fragile device.

In terms of appearance, the square camera island has been given a flatter, more minimal design, and we no longer have those rings around the lenses, which made it look more unified. The phone comes in three colors: black, gray, and a special color called Mocha Gold, which is really attractive.

Xiaomi 15T Pro Screen Review

Let’s move on to the part you’re going to be staring at for hours; the screen. The Xiaomi 15T Pro has a giant 6.83-inch flat AMOLED panel that takes up almost the entire front of the phone. The bezels are very thin, giving you a full-screen and immersive experience for watching movies and playing games. The resolution of this panel is 1280 x 2772 pixels, which gives an excellent pixel density of 447ppi, and everything is incredibly sharp and clear. The display can display 68 billion colors and supports the cool Dolby Vision and HDR10+ standards, which means that when you’re watching high-quality content on Netflix, the colors are vibrant and the contrast is incredible.

But then we get to the magic number of 144Hz. On paper, this refresh rate means that movements and scrolling should be smooth and smooth as butter. But in the real world, it’s a different story. Our tests show that the phone uses a 120Hz refresh rate for most of the time, within the user interface and apps, and only reaches 144Hz in certain games and benchmarks. Some may say this is a marketing gimmick, but the truth is that this is a smart move for managing battery life. The difference between 120 and 144Hz is almost imperceptible to the naked eye, but the impact on battery life is quite noticeable. So, let’s look at it this way: you have a super-bright 120Hz display that has the potential to go even higher.
The odd thing about this is the brightness. The 15T Pro has a maximum brightness of 3200 nits, while its predecessor, the 14T Pro, had a brightness of 4000 nits. At first glance, this may seem like a step back, but it’s also a smart engineering decision. The 15T Pro has a much larger battery (5500 mAh vs. 5000). Xiaomi has probably managed to make sure that this larger display doesn’t eat up the battery by slightly limiting the maximum brightness (which is only used in very specific situations and under direct sunlight), and instead, it gives the user a great charge. It’s a reasonable trade-off, a little less brightness in specific situations, in exchange for a much longer battery life in everyday use.
For those who care about their eyes, this display is equipped with PWM dimming technology with an ultra-high frequency of 3840 Hz, which minimizes screen flickering in low light and reduces eye fatigue. For gamers, the 480 Hz touch sampling rate is also good news, meaning the display responds to your touches with lightning speed.

Xiaomi 15T Pro Battery Review

In the battery department, Xiaomi has made a big change of strategy this year. Instead of focusing on lightning-fast charging speeds, it has put all its effort into endurance and charging. The 15T Pro has a gigantic 5,500 mAh battery, which is 500 mAh more than its predecessor. The result of this increase in capacity is impressive. Standard tests show that this phone recorded a score of 16 hours and 24 minutes with heavy and mixed use, while the 14T Pro lasted about 12 and a half hours with the same type of use. That’s an improvement of almost 30% in charging! With this phone, you can safely get through a full day of heavy work and still have a charge at the end of the night.
But this high endurance has come at the cost of a decrease in charging speed. The 120W charger has been said goodbye and has been replaced by a 90W charger. Of course, 90W is still very fast! This phone charges to 50% in 15 minutes and 87% in half an hour. It also takes about 36 minutes to fully charge. In comparison, the 14T Pro took less than 20 minutes to fully charge. This is the trade-off we mentioned; Xiaomi has come to the conclusion that users would rather use their phone for a few more hours than charge it a few minutes earlier. This decision could also help with battery health in the long run.

Another good news is the presence of 50W wireless charging. This is a premium feature that is not found in many competitors in this price range and makes things very convenient for those who are tired of wires. And now we come to the painful part of the story, which is a bit bittersweet; there is no charger in the box of the phone! Yes, Xiaomi has finally joined Apple and Samsung and you have to buy a 90W adapter separately. This means that you have to add the cost of an original charger to the final price of the phone. This move directly affects that high-value purchase slogan of the T series. (Xiaomi 15T phone review)

Xiaomi 15T Pro camera review

CameraProsCons
Main (50MP)Excellent detail, Leica color profiles, great low-light performance with OIS.
Telephoto (50MP)5x optical zoom, flagship-level quality, enables creative shots.
Ultrawide (12MP)Good for landscapes, controlled distortion, colors match main camera. No autofocus (so no macro mode).
Selfie (32MP)Good detail, natural skin tones, can record 4K video.Photo quality not as good as main cameras.
Video Recording8K@30fps4K@120fps slow-motion, excellent stabilization.

Now, we come to the part that turns the Xiaomi 15T Pro from a very good phone into a special and exciting phone. This year, Xiaomi, in collaboration with Leica, has thrown all its stones into the camera basket and the result is a photography package that is unrivaled in this price class.

Main camera review (50MP Light Fusion 900)

The main sensor of this phone is a large 50-megapixel Light Fusion 900 sensor that is accompanied by a large aperture lens and optical image stabilization (OIS). These specifications on paper mean excellent light capture and bright and clear photos even at night. In practice, it’s the same. Photos are packed with detail during the day, with accurate colors and a wide dynamic range. Thanks to the partnership with Leica, you have two attractive color profiles; Leica Authentic, which captures colors that are natural and close to reality, and Leica Vibrant, which gives you more vibrant and attractive photos for social media with a little exaggeration. The camera’s performance at night is also really good, and thanks to OIS and a large sensor, noise is low and details are well preserved. (Motorola Edge 60 review)

Telephoto Camera Review (50MP Periscope)

And now the star of the show; the 50MP periscope telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom! This is what sets the 15T Pro apart from all its competitors and even its predecessor (which had a 2.6x zoom). Having a 5x optical zoom means you can zoom in on distant subjects without any loss of quality. This feature opens up new doors for your creativity. From shooting portraits with natural bokeh and amazing background compression to street photography and capturing moments from a distance, everything is possible with this lens. The quality of the photos from this camera is truly on par with expensive flagships. Excellent details, colors that match the main camera and acceptable performance even in less than ideal light make this lens the main trump card of the 15T Pro. This phone is no longer an all-round flagship killer, but a flagship killer specialized for the love of photography.

Ultrawide Camera Review (12MP)

Alongside those two cool lenses, we also have a 12MP ultrawide camera with a 120-degree field of view. This camera does its job well and is suitable for taking landscape and group photos. Its colors match the main camera and the distortion of the corners of the image is well controlled. But it has one drawback, and that is the lack of autofocus. This means you can’t use it to take macro photos (from very close distances). This shows that Xiaomi has spent the main budget on the main and telephoto cameras and has settled for a standard and workable option for the ultra-wide.

Selfie camera review (32MP)

The 32-megapixel selfie camera also performs well. The photos have good details and natural skin processing. But more importantly, the ability to record 4K videos with this camera. This is a big advantage over many competitors, such as the Poco F6 Pro, whose selfies are limited to 1080p video recording. Of course, the tests carried out show that its photography performance may not be up to the standards of other cameras and is a bit disappointing, but it is quite enough for video calling and taking high-quality selfies for social networks.

Video Review

The 15T Pro also has a lot to say about video recording. The ability to record 8K video at 30 frames per second is a futuristic option. But what’s more practical and exciting is the 4K video recording at 120 frames per second! This means you can record incredibly high-quality, cinematic slow-motion videos. The gyro-based electronic image stabilization (gyro-EIS) also works very well, eliminating hand shake well for smooth, steady videos.(Notting phone 2a review)

Xiaomi 15T Pro Hardware and Software Review

AspectProsCons
Performance– Extremely powerful Dimensity 9400+ chip.
– Handles heavy games smoothly.
– Can heat up under prolonged use.
– May cause slight performance throttling.
Software– HyperOS 2 is smooth and optimized.
– 4 major Android & 5 years security updates.
– No 3.5mm headphone jack.
Audio– Good dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos.
– Loud and immersive sound.
– Bass is not very deep (typical for phones).

The beating heart of this new warrior is the ultra-powerful MediaTek chip, the Dimensity 9400+. Built on a 3nm architecture, this chipset is one of the most powerful processors in the Android world, competing head-to-head with the best from Qualcomm. Gone are the days when we looked at MediaTek chips as budget options. This processor runs every heavy game and application you can think of, such as Genshin Impact or Call of Duty, at the highest graphics settings without any lag or frame drops.

But with a lot of power comes a lot of heat. Some reports show that the phone heats up under heavy and prolonged stress, for example after half an hour of gaming. This means that the cooling system may not be able to fully control this monster and you may encounter a slight performance drop after prolonged use. This is where the subtle differences between flagship chips become apparent; extreme power versus long-term performance stability.
To accompany this powerful processor, Xiaomi has used 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and ultra-fast UFS 4.1 internal storage, available in 256GB, 512GB, and even 1TB. This hardware combination ensures that the speed of opening apps, switching between them, and the overall experience of working with the phone is fast and lightning-fast.

On the software side, we have the latest version of Xiaomi’s user interface, HyperOS 2, which is developed based on Android 15. HyperOS is much smoother and more optimized than the old MIUI and has a simple and modern look. Xiaomi has also added a bunch of new AI features to it; from text summarization and translation in the Notes app to features like Google’s Circle to Search, which makes searching much easier.

But the most important news in the software department is Xiaomi’s commitment to long-term updates. This phone is going to receive up to 4 generations of Android updates and 5 years of security updates. This is a great improvement and means that your phone will remain up-to-date and secure in terms of software for years. This greatly increases the value of buying a phone in the long term and shows that Xiaomi is getting closer to Samsung’s standards in this area.

Xiaomi 15T Pro Speaker Review

The Xiaomi 15T Pro is equipped with a dual stereo speaker system that also supports Dolby Atmos technology. One of the speakers is at the bottom of the phone and the other is actually the same speaker that has been amplified. The sound quality is really good. The volume is loud, the sound separation is fine, and the sound is not distorted even at high volumes.
When watching movies or playing games, thanks to Dolby Atmos, the sound has a good sense of surround and three-dimensionality and immerses you in the space. Of course, you shouldn’t expect deep and punchy bass like Bluetooth speakers, but for a mobile phone, its performance is quite satisfactory. It can be summed up that the speakers are not the main strength of the phone, but they are definitely not a weakness and they run the cartoon well. As always, there is no 3.5 mm headphone jack.

Is the Xiaomi 15T Pro worth buying?

Well, we have reached the end of the Xiaomi 15T Pro review. It’s time to put everything together

Xiaomi 15T Pro strengths:

  • Periscope telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom: Without a doubt, the main star and the main reason to buy this phone.
  • Excellent battery life: The 5500 mAh battery has an unmatched charging capacity.
  • Very powerful hardware: The Dimensity 9400+ chip handles everything with ease.
  • Large and high-quality screen: The AMOLED panel is bright, smooth, and great for watching content.
  • High build quality and excellent durability: Aluminum frame, Gorilla Glass 7i, and upgraded IP68 certification.
  • Long-term software support: 4 years of Android updates and 5 years of security updates.
  • 50W wireless charging: A premium and practical feature.

Xiaomi 15T Pro disadvantages:

  • High price: Its price difference with the previous generation and other competitors is large.
  • Wired charging speed is lower than the previous generation: reduced from 120W to 90W.
  • No charger in the box: An additional cost and hassle for the user.
  • Average performance of the ultrawide and selfie cameras: The main focus was on the main and telephoto cameras.
  • Overheating under heavy load: Long-term performance stability can be a challenge.

As you can see, the 15T Pro has the clear advantage in two key areas: battery life and telephoto camera. On the other hand, the 14T Pro has faster charging and a brighter display. So choosing between the two is a matter of preference.
So, it’s time for the final verdict. The Xiaomi 15T Pro is a great phone, but it’s not for everyone. This phone has transformed from an all-round flagship killer to a photography-focused phone this year. All of Xiaomi’s engineering, spending, and focus has gone into that 5x periscope lens, and we have to say, it’s succeeded in doing so, delivering an unparalleled telephoto photography experience at this price point.
So who should buy this phone?
If you are a photography enthusiast, if optical zoom is an absolute priority for you, and if you like to take creative and professional photos, and of course, you have the budget, the Xiaomi 15T Pro is one of the best and most tempting options on the market. The excellent battery life and long-term software support are other reasons that justify its purchase.
And who shouldn’t buy this phone?
Almost everyone else! If you are a gamer, if you are a power user looking for the best performance per riyal, or even if you just want a great phone for everyday use, buying the 15T Pro at this price does not make sense. Its value equation does not fit for most users. You can go for the Poco F6 Pro for half the money and enjoy similar hardware power, a great display, and super fast charging, and keep the rest in your pocket. Another option is to wait for the Xiaomi 14T Pro, with its very similar features and faster charging, to come down in price and buy it at a much more affordable price. Ultimately, the Xiaomi 15T Pro was a bold move by Xiaomi to push the boundaries of photography in the premium mid-range class, but this boldness has come at the cost of distancing itself from the core philosophy of the T series, which is unparalleled value for money.
